Water is a symbolic element in Christian baptism. Denominations differ on the manner of baptizing; our church considers these methods simply a matter of preference. We believe baptism is an important outward symbol of God's grace.
When we receive baptism, several things happen:
- We acknowledge that, through Christ's death and resurrection, we have a personal relationship with God.
- We promise to live new lives according to the ways of Jesus Christ.
- We are publicly welcomed into the larger community of Christians.
Infant and Child Baptism
When we baptize little ones before their decision, we are welcoming them into our church family and increasing the likelihood that they will one day respond to God's offer of grace with their own personal decision for Jesus.
Romans 6:3,4 reads, "...all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death. We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
